The deepest Parisian Fears

- Missing the last metro.
- Not finding table on the terrace of the bar du Marche.
- Wearing the same Zara top as the colleague.
- Bumping into the ex, when walking out of the gym, sweating.
- Being home alone at Saturday night.
- Moving to the suburbs.
- Getting modded by the pigeon.
- Not finding a parking spot for their Velib bike.
- Realizing that your neighbor might actually be having a sexual life.
- Being mistaken for a provinciale (non-parsian)

آشنائی، در آشنایی گشوده شد. میان دو زن نام مرد کلیدی ست به گشایش قفلی که هر کدام بر دریچه ی قلب خود بسته دارند.
"...Sometimes you can not believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too- even when you're in the dark, even when you're falling."

Few quotes from Crime and Punishment

"Reason is the slave of passion"

"a hundred suspicions don't make a proof."

"If there's a hundredth part of a false note in speaking the truth, it leads to a discord, and that leads to trouble, But  if all to the last note, is false in flattery, it is just as agreeable, and is heard not without satisfaction. It may be a coarse, satisfaction, but still a satisfaction, And however coarse the flattery, at least half will be sure to seem true. That's so so for all stages of development and classes of society."

Criminals

"I maintain that all great men or even men a little out of the common, that is to say capable of giving some new word, must from their very nature be criminals-more or less, of course. Otherwise it's hard for them to get out of the common rut; and to remain in the common rut is what they can't submit to, from their very nature again, and to my mind they ought not, indeed, to submit to it. "

Logic in Nature

"You can't skip over the nature by logic. Logic presupposes three possibilities, but there are millions! Cut away a million, and reduce it all to the question of comfort! That's the easiest solution of the problem! It's seductively clear and you musn't think about  it. That's the great thing, you musn't think! The whole secret of the life in two pages of print!"

True Colors and Followers...

"We've grown used to having everything ready-made, to walking on crutches, to having our food chewed for us. Then the great hour struck, and every man showed himself in his true colors."

"To go wrong in one's own way is better than to go right in someone else's. In the first case you are a man, in the second you're no better that a bird."

Man vs. Woman

"Man, he lives in jerks-baby born an' a man dies, an' that's a jerk - gets a farm an' loses his farm, and' that's a jerk. Woman, it's all one flow, like a stream, little eddies, little waterfalls, but the river, it goes right on. Woman looks at it like that."

Poor people are the only ones that help.

She started for the door, and when she reached it, she turned about. "I'm learnin' one thing good," she said. "Learnin' it all a time, ever'day. If you're in trouble or hurt or need-go to poor people. They're the only ones that'll help-the only ones."

Sin...

Casy said gently, "Sure I got sins. Ever'body got sins. A sin is somepin you ain't sure about. Them people that's sure about ever'thing an' ain't got no sin-well, with that kind of a son-of-a-bitch, if I was God I'd kick their ass right out of heaven! I couldn't stand 'em!"

"You think it was a sin to let my wife die like that?"
"well," said Casy, "for anybody else it was a mistake, but if you think it was a sin-then it's a sin. A fella build his own sins right up from the groun'."

Bank

- The bank isn't a man.
- Yes, but the bank is only made of men.
- No, you're wrong there - quite wrong there. The bank is something else that men. It happens that every man in a bank hates what the bank does, and yet the bank does it. The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It's the monster. Man made it, but they can't control it.

Odd People

It is not such a very dreadful circumstances that we are odd people, is it? For we really are odd, you know-careless, reckless, easily wearied of anything. We don't look throughly into matters-don't care to understand things. We are all like this-you and I, and all of them!

2 quotes!

  • The first qualification for understanding another is Heart.
  • It is better to be unhappy and know the worst, than to be happy in a fool's paradise!

God's ways

We degrade God when we attribute our own ideas to Him, out of annoyance that we cannot fathom His ways.

wart on the nose!

... if you have a wart on your forehead or nose, you imagine that all the world is looking at it, and that people would make fun of you because of it, even if you had discovered America!

Talent and Money

Gania: Once I am rich, I shall be a genius, an extremely original man. One of the vilest and most hateful things connected with money is that it can buy even talent; and will do so as long as the world lasts.

A new idea

The regenerating passion by which we were animated in the student group has become an ideology, a network of fixed ideas, a cobweb. That is the proof that there is no escape for you, either. And you are only at the beginning of the parabola. That is the destiny of every new idea. It is crystallized in the formulas so that it may be propagated. it is entrusted to a body of interpreters so that it may be preserved. That body is prudently recruited, sometimes specifically paid for its task, and it subject to a superior authority whose duty it is to resolve doubts and suppress deviations from the line indicated by the masters. This every new idea invariably ends by becoming fixed, inflexible, parasitical, and reactionary.

...and both of them took on about that dead tanner like they'd lost the twelve disciples. Well, if ever I struck anything like it, I'm a nigger. It was enough to make a body ashamed of the human race.

praying

...she said the thing a body could get by praying for it was "spiritual gifts." This was too many for me, but she told me what she meant-I must help other people, and do everything I could for other people, and look out for them all the time, and never think about myself. This was including Miss Watson, as I took it. I went out in the woods and turned it over in my mind a long time, but I couldn't see no advantage about it-except for the other people-so at last I reckoned I wouldn't worry about it anymore, but just let it go.

nigger!

"Good gracious! anybody hurt?"

"No'm. Killed a nigger."

"Well, it's lucky; because sometimes people do get hurt."

Playfield of Childhood...

Like a camera, the small rectangle of the rear window zoomed out on the playfield of my childhood. With each mile, the village shrank smaller and smaller until the cluster of trees disappeared into a cloud of dust behind us.

I never saw Golsara again...
